MEDIA LITERACY
This essential media studies program, based on interactive critical inquiry, helps students of all ages come to terms with the overwhelming power of media influence in their lives. Analyzing a range of thought-provoking contemporary media, from network news to Instagram, students will begin to develop invaluable real-world skills:

- Asking questions from multiple perspectives to acknowledge diverse points of view & practice empathy
- Discerning fact from opinion
- Using facts to support opinions in persuasive arguments (aka Expository Essay Writing 101)
- Distinguishing real news from fake news by corroborating info from multiple legitimate news sources
- Challenging "authoritative" interpretations of events with an open yet skeptical mind
- Connecting contemporary issues to historical precedents
- Identifying the intersectionality of social-cultural-economic-political forces & rights-race-gender-class issues
- Engaging confidently in cultural conversations that matter
